Hello everyone reading this post, this is my fourth blog posting.
For this posting I am going to talk about my third language, which is Malay. I take the MSP programme(Malay Special Programme) at Hwa Chong itself, not at the Bishan MOE Centre. I chose to take Malay as my third language since there are many Malay people in Singapore, and Malay is useful when communicating with those who do not speak English. Another reason I took up Malay is that most of my relatives on my father's side live in Malaysia, so i go there often and can use Malay there. Malay is also easy to learn because it is quite similar to English. About our Malay lessons, we Aphelions take them with ProEd, while Ortus and iSpark too them together. It was initially on Monday and Wednesday, from 2.10p.m. to 3.40p.m., but since some of our CCA timings clashed with the Malay lessons, our teacher, Cikgu Tan (Cikgu is teacher in Malay), changed the timing to we can go on either Monday or Tuesday, 2.20p.m. to 5.20p.m. I usually go on Tuesday because on Monday I have Track and Field training. In the Malay lessons, we were taught some concepts on Malay, along with some simple words and greetings. We also learnt the prefixes and sufixes of Malay, and how to calculate numbers in Malay. We also learnt pronouncation of Malay words. Although this lessons are in the afternoon, it is an "official" subject, and that we are to "prioritise" it. We also have examinations :( , but the good thing is that we can choose whether we want to include the score in our MSG if we want to AFTER we receive our results. Meaning that if we score high marks in Malay, we can include it in our MSG, or if we score badly we can choose to leave it out. Good right?
Here are some Malay words:
One = Satu
Two = Dua
Three = Tiga
Four = Empat
Five = Lima
Six = Enam
Seven = Tujuh
Eight = Lapan
Nine = Sembilan
Ten = Sepuluh
Eleven = Sebelas
Twelve = Dua belas
...
Here is also an example of a Malay sentence:
Nama saya Jin Xiang.
(My name is Jin Xiang.)
You can also say this, "Kamu babi gemuk" to your Malay friend, but don't blame me if you get bashed up. :P
(It means "You are a fat pig.", and Malays find pigs dirty and offensive.)
Signing off,
Hong Jin Xiang
